Epic Games says high EGS CPU usage is a bug, patch coming soon
Epic Games has responded to concerns over high CPU usage by its Epic Games Store app.
Director of Publishing Strategy Sergey Galyonkin was notified of the issue and has since clarified that it’s a bug with the current version of the software.
“We’ve identified the issue and [are] currently testing the fix,” Galyonkin said in response to a Twitter thread on the issue. “You’ll see it in the patch notes once the launcher gets updated.”
Problems cropped up last week when a Reddit user noted that he was seeing seen abnormally high CPU temps while the EGS app was open, but idling in the background. This patch promises to fix the issue, but so far no reason has been given for the relatively large amount of data the app seems to be phoning home, as noted by Hot Hardware.
The Epic Games Store has been dogged by criticism since it launched in 2018. The software still lacks a lot of basic features available in competing software, such as shopping carts. It has also been accused of collecting personal data from users’ computers without their consent. While the quick turnaround to fix this bug is certainly appreciated, it’s not likely to ease PC gamers’ apprehensions over the platform.
