TLOU2 producer called out for likening critics to trolls, deletes tweet and apologizes
Naughty Dog producer Neil Druckman is in a bit of hot water for a Tweet that allegedly compared critics to trolls.
The controversy started after The Last of Us Part II began leading the Game’s Choice award poll for the upcoming 2020 Game Awards. Druckman took to Twitter to express his delight at the news, and take a swipe at those who had been critical of the game.
“TLoU fans, activate! As a bonus, for every vote you cast for The Last of Us Part II, a hater loses their caps lock.”
Even fans of the game were quick to call out the tweet for appearing like sour grapes. “Not a hater, very much a lover of Last of Us and Naughty Dog. But the game’s narrative has big problems and reducing serious complaints to ‘haters’ is dumb,” said one responded going by the name Nick Riche. Yet another fan replied saying “this is why people dislike you dude.” Telling him to be thankful for his fans, and stop trying to fuel the haters.
Druckman soon deleted the tweet, and posted an apology for getting people all riled up. “My tweet was meant as a joke re: trolls, but it just added fuel to the fire and seems like I’m against criticism. I should be better than that,” he said.
The Last of Us Part II has generated its fair share of controversy. Particularly in light of a damning leak back in the spring which exposed some questionable narrative choices that many fans disagreed with. We gave it the silver medal in the MMNTech GOTY Awards: Most Disappointing.
At the time of writing, Ghosts of Tsushima has since taken the lead in the gamers’ choice poll.
