Ubisoft may not release new Assassin’s Creed in 2017

Ubisoft has hinted that they may not be releasing a new Assassin’s Creed game anytime soon.

In an inteview with IGN, Ubisoft VP of Editorial, Tommy François said that they are examining the franchise. 

“We believe Alpha for these games needs to be one year before release. We’re trying to achieve that. That’s super [expletive] blunt, I don’t even know if I’m allowed to say this. This is the goal we’re going for: Alpha one year before, more quality, more polish. So if this means biting the [bullet] and not having an Assassin’s game, or a Far Cry  [in 2017], [expletive] it.”

Ubisoft confirmed there will be no new Assassin’s Creed game for 2016.

The publisher has long been under fire for lacklustre annual releases, as well as the quality of some of their games. Assassin’s Creed Unity was heavily criticised for being unfinished at launch.

Ubisoft said the decision to extend development is a creative one, and not to give consumers a break from over exposure.

“People are allowed to perceive it like that, that it’s a break in the brand and that we’re doing it for that. I have no quarrels. I just want people to fall in love when people try the next iteration of one of these two brands.”
