I’m sorry miss, but your PS4 is in a coma. I’m afraid the only thing we can do is pull the plug.

Seem’s Sony’s launch of Firmware 2.0 isn’t going as smoothly as planned. PlayStation fans have been taking to social media to complain about one odd new feature. Once the PS4 goes to sleep, it never wakes up. Oops.

Standby, now named “rest mode”, was overhauled to include more energy saving feature. One such “feature” causes the console to crash and become non-responsive to user inputs. The only way to wake it up is to do a hard reboot, either by unplugging it or holding the power button down for ten seconds.

The problem appears to be pretty widespread. There are numerous complaints on Twitter, and we experienced the issue with our own PS4.

Any long time PlayStation owner knows that this isn’t anything new. Sony has a track record of dodgy firmware launches. Sony has yet to acknowledge this particular issue on their official Twitter, though they are aware of other issues with the update. Some users were complaining about difficulties logging on to PSN. Hopefully they can get it fixed sooner rather than later.
