How to use a DualShock 4 on your PC

A lot of PC gamers are keyboard and mouse purists. Though it’s a control scheme that doesn’t always make a lot of sense. A controller will always be better for third person action games and side scrollers. Basically anything that benefits from a solid d-pad or smooth analogue movement. So what’s the best controller to use these days? Well, Microsoft just provided drivers so the Xbox One controller will work on PC, but what if you prefer the DualShock 4? Thankfully there’s an easy way to get Sony’s surprisingly comfortable kit working in Windows.

First you’ll need to download the DS4 Tool, developed by InhexSTER on the PCSX2 forums. The latest version is 1.2.1, that’s the one you want.

Extract the entire folder, then open up Virtual Bus Driver, and run ScpDriver.exe. This will install the necessary tools to get you up and running.

Connect your DualShock 4 to your PC through USB or Bluetooth, then go back to the main DS4 Tool folder and run ScpServer. It should detect your controller and activate it. Then you’re good to go. You’ll just have to run ScpServer every time you want to game, so it’s a good idea to make a shortcut on the desktop.

The tool also has a few cool settings in it. You can set up the light bar to show battery level, or just adjust it’s colour to anything you’d like. You can also use the touchpad like a mouse. Pretty sweet, eh.

We’ve tested it, and it works flawlessly in games. Just be prepared to get confused during QTEs.
