Sony kills maps, YouTube on the PlayStation Vita
The PlayStation Vita death watch continues. Sony announced this morning that it would be removing…
Another month rolls through, and Sony has announced a whole bunch of new games available free to PlayStation Plus subscribers.
On the first Tuesday in August, gamers will be able to download any of six titles across all three platforms.
The PlayStation 4 has traditionally gotten the short end of the stick in these promos, and this month is no different. It’s the usual duo of indie games. First up is Road Not Taken, a rouge-like puzzle game that has you rescuing children from a frozen forest before the time runs out. We’re also getting Phil Fish’s pixel platformer Fez, which is being made available as a cross buy. If you download it for PS4, you will be able to play it on the PS3 and Vita as well. Indie games traditionally have a smaller fan base than mainstream titles, so you’ll either really love or really hate this line up.
Over on the PlayStation 3, yes, it can play Crysis 3. The futuristic, bow action, sci-fi shooter from CryTek has you fighting in the decaying urban jungle of New York. Also up is Proteus. A bizarre game with Atari level graphics where you exploring dynamically rendered islands because I don’t know. It’s more interactive art than game per se. Good news, it’s also a cross buy with the Vita, if that’s your thing.
The Vita also gets its own weird arthouse title Metrico. It has you jumping around inside pie charts and infographics. Gameplay looks similar to N+ and Thomas Was Alone. Games like these definitely have an acquired taste. However, it’s not all a loss, as Vita owners also get Dragon’s Crown. A hack-and-slash RPG from Atlas and Vanillaware that IGN called “a gorgeous and rewarding action-RPG that’s well worth the wait”.
All six games will be available free to subscribers until the beginning of September.
