Think twice before suing Sony.
Sony's changed the PSN terms of service to include a "don't sue us" clause. Basically,…
Sony has pulled Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation Store, in a rare move by the console maker.
All mention of the game has been completely scrubbed from both the store itself and the PlayStation website. We have confirmed this to be the case for both the US and Canadian regions. If you manually search for the game, it no longer shows up in the results.
Sony had a notice up earlier in the day explaining the situation, and their refund policy.
“SIE strives to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction, therefore we will begin to offer a full refund for all gamers who have purchased Cyberpunk 2077 via PlayStation Store,” the company said. “SIE will also be removing Cyberpunk 2077 from PlayStation Store until further notice.”
CD Projekt Red had initially told dissatisfied gamers they would be able to receive refunds for digital purchases through their console’s storefront. However, it appears they may have failed to communicate this decision with Sony. The PlayStation Store normally does not offer a refund option.
It’s highly unusual for a console maker to pull such a high profile release from their store. So this may have been done in retaliation after they were bombarded with refund requests via social media and customer support lines.
This is the latest blow to the Polish developer following the disastrous launch of Cyberpunk 2077. CD Projekt had initially told consumers that the game was running surprisingly well on base 8th gen hardware. However, players on the PS4 and Xbox One have encountered major issues relating to performance and visual fidelity, on top of a whole host of other bugs present in all versions of the game.
CD Projekt’s stock rose slightly today after dropping 20% following the game’s launch on December 10th. The removal from the largest console platform though is likely to rattle investors when markets reopen on Monday.
