Nvidia delays RTX 3070 launch until Oct 29th
Nvidia has delayed the launch of the RTX 3070 until October 29th, in order to ensure there’s enough supply to meet demand.
“We know this may be disappointing to those eager to purchase a GeForce RTX 3070 as soon as possible, however this shift will help our global partners get more graphics cards into the hands of gamers on launch day,” the company said in a blog post.
Nvidia faced major issues with the launch of its RTX 3080 and 3090 cards last month. Supply sold out in seconds, only to be listed by eBay scalpers for ludicrously inflated prices. It seems like the chip maker is eager to rebuild some goodwill with their customers by ensuring a similar debacle doesn’t happen again.
They aren’t the only tech company that has experienced supply runs at launch. Both Sony and Microsoft have had similar issues with their respective console pre-orders. Disrupted supply chains and reports of manufacturing issues have been plaguing pretty much every hardware release this year. Though it seems like Nvidia is one of the few companies that has a concrete plant to actually address the issues, and not repeat past mistakes.
Rival AMD is due to release their hotly anticipated “Big Navi” cards later this month, so it’ll be interesting to see how they combat the supply run situation.
