Rejoice free-to-play haters! The App Store is now highlighting games that you ‘pay once and play’, with no in-app purchases.
Apple added a new featured app section that declares gamers can enjoy “hours of uninterrupted fun with complete experiences spanning the App Store’s most beloved games.” It includes titles such as BioShock, Thomas Was Alone, Knights of the Old Republic, and other great titles from both indie and triple-A developers.
It’s certainly no secret that F2P games are controversial. Cupertino has faced a lot of flack in the past over kids going on an in-app shopping sprees. Older gamers have also sharply criticized the pay-to-win mechanic many of these apps use.
Unfortunately, the App Store has not done a good job highlighting more traditional games; until now. Hopefully more developers get on board to bring more meaningful content to mobile, not just crystal buying simulators.
