Tesco sends PlayStation Vita to the bargain bin
Our PlayStation Vita death watch continues with fresh news out of Scotland. A Hot Deals…
The PlayStation Vita death watch continues. Sony announced this morning that it would be removing both the map and YouTube apps from their handheld game console.
Maps and geolocation features will be disabled in a planned firmware update in March. YouTube will disappear from the PlayStation Store as of today (January 28th), while support will officially end in April.
Sony has not said why it’s cutting these features, but since both are operated by Google, it’s likely due to licensing issues. While these were never the most popular apps on the device, naturally a lot of owners are upset over the news.
The Vita continues to struggle, selling less than ten million units during the three years it has been on the market. Sony officially ended first party game support in 2014. Reacting to today’s news, some fans speculated on social media that Sony may be considering ending support for the device. At this point, they might as well.
