Nintendo unveils the new New Nintendo 3DS
It's the new New Nintendo 3DS. What is it? Is it a new console? Nope,…
A piece of news that should surprise absolutely no one, Nintendo has confirmed the new New 3DS will be region locked.
In short, if you import a game from Japan, it will refuse to work on your North American system, and vice versa.
Nintendo has faced harsh criticism for their region locked policy. Both Sony and Microsoft abandoned the practice some time ago. Though it’s well known that the boys from Kyoto don’t exactly pay attention to what the competition is doing.
Nor do they bother acknowledging a campaign by thousands of fans to end it. In fact, even sympathizing with consumers is enough to get you fired from Big N.
We’re already seeing mixed opinions about the New 3DS around the web. Either people are upset because it’s games aren’t compatible with the old model, or they’re stoked because they never owned the original. Either way, it will probably sell. However, it just seems like Nintendo keeps digging a deeper hole as they try to maintain outdated business models.
Region locked consoles belongs in the same bin as the Macarana and parachute pants. Relics of the 90s that we’d all like to forget.
